A Taste of the Black Stuff by Studio Halt

A pint of the black stuff created with 2d needle felting technique, using short fibre New Zealand carded wool which is felted into shape using a variety of barbed felting needles. When the needle is pushed through loose wool, the needle’s barbs catch and pull the fibres, so they tangle and bind together to create a matted felt fabric. The more the needle is ‘stabbed’ into the wool, the firmer and smaller it becomes. Colours can be mixed and blended together, and different effects can be achieved by setting down layers of the wool also. The wool is the paint.

Details and accents are added using free motion embroidery on the sewing machine. This is like using the sewing machine to draw or sketch.
